5 Reasons to Consider Therapy if You’ve Never Considered it Before

Therapy is an effective tool for self-exploration that everyone should take advantage of at least once in their lifetime. Even if you have not been diagnosed with a mental health condition, therapy can be life-changing. So, if you’ve never considered it before, I recommend you read on to see what reasons I would recommend you to speak with a therapist.

  1. You keep talking about a problem you are having to all the people in your life.

You sense that your tribe is tiring of hearing about your problem and you aren’t satisfied with the advice/feedback you are getting from them.

  2. You are going through something hard that has you feeling isolated and alone in it.

You feel stuck or are being pulled in two directions and you don’t know what to do. You feel like no-one else understands how you are feeling or gets why you are struggling.

  3. You are having realizations about something that you are not ready to talk about with anyone in your immediate circle.

You may be feeling embarrassed, shameful, guilty, or fear judgment from the people you care about or maybe you just aren’t ready to be vulnerable and honest with them yet.

  4. You are going through a life-transition and are having a hard time adjusting to it.

Common life transitions include: grief and loss, becoming a parent, getting married, entering or changing your career, struggles with a particular point in parenting, changing relationships, changing your values or worldview, moving, contemplating or going through a divorce, kids leaving the home, among many others.

  5. You notice unhelpful patterns of behavior that are impacting your relationships (with yourself or other people).

Because we live in a world full of wounded human beings carrying the traumas of previous generations we all experience hurt and hurt others, intentionally or not. Rather than put your hurt on others, you recognize that you want to take ownership and heal from your hurts so you can be whole, life-giving to the people you care about, and stop the cycle of trauma that runs in your family.

If any of these reasons fits you, I encourage you to take a step towards exploring how therapy can be the tool that gets you from where you are to where you want to be. If any of these reasons fits someone you care about, please encourage them to give therapy a try!
